New Series: Make-Up Basics!

Hello lovelies! 馃檪

I’ve decided to start a new series, covering all the basics of make up. Whether your just starting out playing with make up, or a make up connoisseur, I find that there is always something new to be learned or some new tricks to try out!

To start with, I’m going to talk about Foundations and how to choose the right shade for your skintone. Here are my top tips on choosing the right colour;

Use foundation to even and perfect your skintone, not give you a new one
I know that sometimes it is tempting to go a shade or two darker than your natural skin colour to make yourself look more tanned but please, unless you love your face to be a totally different colour to the rest of your body, resist the urge! It never looks natural, always choose a foundation to match your natural skintone, it’s so much easier to bronze it up than trying to lighten a foundation that’s way too dark for you.

Always swatch before you buy
And I don’t mean on your wrist or the back of your hand! Whether your going to your local drugstore to pick up a purse-friendly foundation or heading to a high-end make up counter, go make up free and test the colours ON YOUR FACE! In natural light, take your chosen shade and swipe from your cheek down to your jawline, beside this colour, do the same with a shade lighter and a shade darker. The one that disappears completely is the one you want. If you want to be extra sure your picking the right one, test it on your forehead too as some people tend to be slightly darker here!

Choose a yellow base
Sounds odd I know! But pale or dark skinned, everyone has yellow undertones to their skin. Using a colour laced with pink or peach undertones can make even the most ghostly pale ladies and gents look washed out and chalky! A yellow based foundation will blend easily into your skin and keep you looking bright and radiant 馃檪

Change with the Seasons
To keep you looking fresh and healthy all year round, make sure you have two foundations to hand; one for summer when your tanned, and one for winter when your paler. For the rest of the year, you can mix the two colours together or use separate for certain areas where your skin might be lighter or darker!

And here’s how you can get the right consistency for your skin type!

Dry/Dull/Tired Skin
Your aim here will be a fresh, dewy complexion and to get this, you will want to choose a hydrating foundation. These have a moisturising formula and you can choose to have a sheer coverage, that you would find in a tinted moisturiser, or medium-full coverage from a liquid or mousse formula. Avoid matte foundations and cakey powders as these will make your skin look even drier.

Oily Skin
If you have oily skin, obviously you will want to choose a foundation that will keep shine at bay, so look for foundations that state directly on the packaging that they are mattifying or oil free. You can also add a mattifying powder on top to reduce shine.

I hope this helped some of you!

Today’s Look & Outfit of the Day!

Hello pretties! 馃檪

Does anyone else subscribe to the newsletters from clothing websites and then when they constantly email you with offers of 50% off and free delivery?! For a shopaholic like me, this is dangerous territory, when I see that, I literally can’t help myself, I HAVE TO BUY STUFF! Ahhh!
This is exactly what happened to me on Friday when I received an email from Boohoo.com, telling me that there was free delivery and a half price sale. Well, credit card disaster.
On the upside, my order arrived yesterday and I bought this gorgeous skirt which I couldn’t not show you since this season is all about the punk spirit!

Fresh Faced Friday!

Hello my lovelies!

I decided to do a little bit of a tutorial for you today, just a round up of my general, everyday make up routine, hope you enjoy it! 馃檪

So, this is before the magic happens, fresh faced and ready to go! (Scary, I know :p)

So first off, you know I always start with my skincare. So to start with, I applied my Lanc么me Visionnaire serum, Clarins HydraQuench cream because I think coming into the winter time, my skin gets a bit drier so I need that extra little bit of hydration, and finally Clarins Moisture Replenishing Lip Balm purely because it gives the perfect base for lipstick, especially if your wearing a colour. It’s also super moisturising, which is great if you wear a lot of matte lipsticks, like me, and your lips tend to be drier.

So now it’s onto the base. I started with the Porefessional primer from Benefit (great if you have oily/combination skin like me, and open pores as well!), just applied with my fingers on the t-zone. I then buffed Doublewear Light foundation from Est茅e Lauder in 03 into my skin using the Stippling Brush from E.L.F. I also applied the Benefit Bo-ing Concealor (02) using my ring finger onto any little blemishes before dusting Creme de la Mer translucent Loose Powder over my whole face.

Next, onto the Contouring & Highlighting. This is the part people seem to have most difficulty with so ill do a separate tutorial on that later 馃檪 I started by dusting MUA Bronzed Perfection Bronzer onto the higher planes of the face (forehead, cheekbones, nose and chin). Then, apply the bronzer, lightly, (your not trying to look like you need to wash your face!) along the hairline, down each side of the bridge of the nose and underneath the cheekbones and sweep out wards to the hair line. Then, with highlighter, I used Watts Up! from Benefit, apply to the centre of the forehead, brow bones, cheek bones, down the centre of the nose, Cupid’s bow and chin and buff in using a foundation brush. Then, with your blusher, apply lightly to the apples of the cheeks and sweep out towards the hairline.

This should be what your aiming for:

Then it’s onto the exciting part, eyes! 馃檪 I used the Urban Decay Naked Pallete to cereal an everyday smokey eye look. I started by using Sidecar from the centre of the lid outwards, and then applying Naked to the crease.

I them applied Virgin as my highlight, to the inner corner of the eye.

Finally, I used Darkhorse (this is my most used colour in the palette, I blend it with everything!), on the outer crease and lid to add some definition.

Then, I simply added black kohl liner to the top and bottom lash lines and smudged slightly with my fingers, before adding They’re Real mascara from Benefit.

You can see the before and after here too, which I think is pretty amazing, my eyes go from having no lashes at all to almost looking like falsies (in a good way!).

Next, it was onto the brows! You all know i love a strong brow and if you haven’t seen my post on how to do the perfect brows, you can find it here..https://loveandlipstickforever.wordpress.com/2013/08/20/how-to-get-the-perfect-brows/, but this is what I used today.

Lastly, I added E.L.F’s Moisturising Tinted Lip Balm in Berry and we’re good to go!

This is what you should end up with!

Hope you had fun reading this guys,

Love & Lipstick,

Tammy xoxo

Benefit Haul!

Hello my lovelies! 馃檪

So, my Benefit allocation arrived okay so I thought I’d share with you the things that I got!

20130913-223921.jpg
L-R: Hello Flawless Oxygen Wow foundation, Watts Up! Highlighter, World Famous Neutrals; Sexiest Nudes Ever eye palette, Boo Boo Zap & Bella Bamba blush.

I thought we’d start with the Hello Flawless. I chose the shade ‘Beige’. Benefit foundation comes in 3 categories, Light, Medium & Dark. ‘Beige’ is the lightest colour in the Medium sector.

20130913-224113.jpg
I genuinely love this foundation, it’s oil free which is great for me as I have oily/combination skin, and it spreads brilliantly so a little goes a long way. The coverage is light to medium and buildable so it’s great for everyday wear, it gives a gorgeous, dewy finish and contains a unique ingredient called the Tri-Radiance Complex which instantly brightens and hydrates the skin.

20130913-224356.jpg
Next up, we’ve got the “Watts Up!” highlighter. Honestly, I prefer this to the High Beam, Sun Beam etc purely because its easier to apply, blend and is a nicer colour. The stick formula makes it super easy to apply, it just glides over the skin and the little buffing sponge blends it in without leaving you looking like you have a big, messy, patchy ‘C’ shape around each side of your face. It also doesn’t dry in so it’s much easier applied than the High Beam and its a lovely, shimmery golden colour.

20130916-133124.jpg

20130916-133133.jpg
Now then, Bella Bamba! This is my favourite Benefit blush. Pink (of course), highly pigmented and slightly shimmery, what’s not to like?!

20130916-133242.jpg
And now we’ on to the really exciting part, this was the one product I couldn’t wait to get my hands on out of this whole package.. the World’s Famous Neutrals; Sexiest Nudes Ever palette. What can I say about it..it’s just stunning. A super cute palette containing four powder shadows and two creams. The creams I love, they’re so easy to use and take very little blending, which is super handy if your always rushing around like me! The kit also comes with 2 lovely little looks that you can try at home, ill post my versions of them later this week! 馃檪

20130916-133603.jpg
The two creams are ‘Holy Smokes’ a gorgeous charcoal grey and ‘Bikini-Tini’, a light, shimmery, shell-pink.

20130916-133753.jpg
Onto the powders we’ve got ‘Milk It’, a shimmery white, perfect for highlighting, ‘Raincheck’ a deep purple, ‘Pause for Applause’, a light lilac-pink and ‘
Blingo’, my absolute favourite, it’s a super blingy, metallic silver, amazing!

20130916-134006.jpg
I also got the holy grail of spot treatments, Boo Boo Zap which is amazing for clearing up spots within a couple of days but there isn’t really much I can show you with that!

Hope you enjoyed this lovelies!

Clarins Extra Comfort Foundation

Hello pretties! 馃檪

Today, I tried out the new Clarins foundation, it’s called Extra Comfort & is priced at 拢35, which I actually thought was pretty steep!
I like the packaging, it comes in a glass jar so you can scoop out what you need rather than using a pump style, which I thought was pretty inventive, no other company I’m aware of does this!

20130907-084343.jpg
I’m trying out shade 114 Cappuccino, which is actually the darkest because I found all the colours were quite fair and there really wasn’t much difference between them. It’s got an SPF 15 which is pretty reasonable. Clarins say that this is an anti-ageing foundation to hydrate and nourish the skin while minimising visible signs of ageing. A non-oily texture and exclusive radiance technology amplifies the light to restore youthful radiance to the complexion.
I say, don’t get me wrong, I do like the foundation, the coverage is great, it works well with my oily skin and it stays put all day. BUT, it is extremely thick and heavy, and I am very aware that I’m wearing it, it feels like I’ve got a mask on and I don’t like that kind of texture on my skin. I also found that it was very matte, I found no hint of the dewy, illuminated finish that Clarins promised.
Overall, I don’t dislike it but maybe just not for everyday wear, great for nights out where you might need some extra coverage but at 拢35, I just couldn’t use it as my daily go-to!

What do you think?
